The technical name for Valley Fever is coccidioidomycosis, or “cocci” for short. It is caused by coddidioides immitis, a fungus which lives in the soil areas like the Sacramento Valley, all of the San Joaquin Valley, desert regions and southern portions of California, much of the southwestern United States, northern Mexico, and even some areas of Central and South America.   Once the spores become wind-borne, they are inhaled into the lungs where the infection starts. Valley Fever is not contagious from person to person.

The Valley Fever Americas Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt foundation founded and operated by active Rotarians with a purpose of raising sufficient contributions to fund the research, development, and clinical testing of a vaccine to prevent the devastating and sometimes fatal disease.   For more information, please go to http://valleyfever.com/.
